Lima, Jan. 20 (ANDINA). Both Foreign Ministers of Peru Jose Garcia Belaunde and Chile Alfredo Moreno agreed that their bilateral relation goes further beyond the perspective of the maritime boundary dispute at the International Court of Justice in the Hague.
Peruvian Foreign Minister Garcia Belaunde explained that this dispute will be settled in a year or two. Meanwhile both countries should not stop their relations.
He further mentioned that Peruvian President Alan Garcia's message in Santiago is that Peru and Chile are complementary economies with the same goals that must work together.
“It is clear that our dispute should remain in the Hague”, said the Peruvian chancellor.
In turn, Chilean Foreign Minister praised that Chile and Peru are the countries with the best perspectives in the economic field.
He added that there is indeed a dispute regarding a maritime boundary that has two different interpretations in each country.
However, “this dispute will be settled in two years and our future will be united. If we want to move forward, we will have to do it together”, said Chancellor Moreno.
